Coincidentally, for the book I'm finishing (or desperately trying to finish) on First Amendment Institutions, I've been delving back into the work of a century and more ago: the age of the British pluralists, some of whose key figures include Maitland, Figgis, Laski, Barker, and others, and some of whom also drew on the German jurist Gierke.
